Chandigarh, 19 August 2023 – Khanak Welfare Foundation, Chandigarh organized a ‘Free Eye Checkup Camp’ for the residents of Village Parachh, Chhoti Parachh, Village Soonak, and Village Jayanti Majri in collaboration with Sahibzada Ajit Singh Free Polyclinic Trust.
Mr. Balbir Singh, Chairman of the Trust and Mr. Bhag Singh (Former Sarpanch), appreciating the initiative of Khanak Team, complimented their well-coordinated program and a very promising team consisting of Mr. Abhishek Rajput (Winner of Rubaru Mr. India, 2022), Ms. Medha Kaushal, Mr. Yogesh Rajput, Mr. Raja Harkirat Singh and Ankush Rajput as volunteers.
Ms. Jaspreet Kaur, Founder of Khanak Welfare Foundation while explaining the spirit behind organizing the Eye Camp, underlined that the primary agenda of the Foundation was to reach out to rural communities and provide them free vision screening, glaucoma screening, refraction, in addition to the dispensing of free eye spectacles and medicines. She also stated that this Camp was basically an initiative to raise awareness among members of the community, of all ages and genders, about the health issues, which are so crucial to a healthy and peaceful life. Eye care has a special importance and hence this was an effort to lead an intervention to clear the backlog of avoidable blindness. Timely eye testing assists in reducing the risk of various ailments relating to eyes and can prevent vision loss and blindness caused.
A team of 4 doctors, headed by Dr. Ashok from PGIMER, DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY supported the camp, raising awareness about the importance of eye care and addressing various eye disorders such as redness, dryness, and frequent watering. The Camp was conducted quite successfully and a total of 150 community members, of different age groups, got their eyes examined by doctors. 16 patients were screened for Cataract surgery, 32 for Ocular Allergies, one for Corneal Opacities, 12 for Fundus evaluation, while Refractions were performed for 55 patients and glasses were prescribed to 42 patients. Two patients were advised for treatment for Squint while 13 persons were found not to be requiring any eye treatment at the moment.
Ms. Jaspreet Kaur, Founder of Khanak Welfare Foundation, apprevia the support provided by the young doctors and staff from PGI and thanked all of them. She also expressed her gratitude to Mr. Balbir Singh, Chairman of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Free Polyclinic Trust and Mr. Bhag Singh, former Sarpanch of Parachh, for their cooperation. She also thanked all the volunteers who worked with great commitment to make the event a success.
